Getting started

Halcyon is an editorial theme for home, wellness, and considered-goods brands. It ships in three styles: Halcyon (warm cream, serif headings), Tallow (terracotta and oat, rounded and friendly), and Sable (charcoal and brass, dark and refined). All three share the same sections and settings, so this documentation applies to every style.

Install the theme

Buy Halcyon from the Shopify Theme Store. Pick the style you like; you can switch styles later from Theme settings → Presets is not possible in Shopify, so if you want a different style, add it from the Theme Store again (styles you have purchased are free to add to the same store).
In your Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes. Halcyon appears in your theme library.
Click Customize to open the theme editor. Nothing is live until you click Publish.

Before you publish

Menus: Halcyon uses the Main menu for the header and the Footer menu for the footer by default. Edit them under Online Store → Navigation. Nested menus (up to three levels) turn into dropdowns and mega menus automatically.
Logo and favicon: upload your logo in the Header section and your favicon under Theme settings → Favicon.
Colors and fonts: set your palette under Theme settings → Colors and typography under Theme settings → Typography.
Products: add product images in a consistent aspect ratio for the tidiest grids. The theme handles mixed ratios, but consistency looks best.
Demo content: sections you add come with example copy so you can see the layout. Replace it with your own text before publishing.

Structure of the theme editor

Header group: announcement bar and header. Shown on every page except the password page.
Template sections: the main content of the page you are viewing. Each template (home page, product, collection, blog post, and so on) has its own sections.
Footer group: trust icons and the footer.
Overlays: cart drawer, search drawer, newsletter popup, and privacy banner. Select an overlay in the sidebar to preview it.
